Great River Energy is piloting two emerging technologies designed to improve transmission system visibility and enhance real-time situational awareness. This presentation will highlight case studies of Heimdall Power, which leverages line sensors to calculate dynamic line ratings, and Prisma Photonics, which uses existing optical ground wire (OPGW) as a distributed sensor to detect system anomalies and electrical events. We will discuss project objectives, installation approaches, results, and the key takeaways Great River Energy has gained from deploying these technologies.
