CEO SDI Presence LLC Chicago, Illinois, United States
As utilities continue to expand private LTE, fiber backhaul, and field communications - including PTT, AMI, and SCADA support - the challenge isn’t just architecture and deployment - it’s scaling the workforce to support it.In this session, WEC Energy Group and SDI Presence will walk through how we are aligning workforce development directly to telecom and grid communications initiatives. Through the Xchange model, we are building a pipeline of resources trained to support real-world network environments - device provisioning and endpoint deployment to network support, field operations, and data capture.
At WEC, this approach is being applied to telecom-specific initiatives such as PTT and NLOS rollouts and supporting communication infrastructure. In parallel, the broader Xchange model is developing talent across adjacent domains - including networking, cybersecurity, business analysis, and application implementation and support—creating a scalable, cross-functional workforce that supports the full IT/OT ecosystem, not just telecom.
A core component of this model is a focus on sourcing and developing talent from local, underserved communities - creating access to high-demand technical careers while simultaneously building a sustainable, onshore workforce aligned to utility needs. This approach not only addresses workforce gaps but also drives measurable community impact in the regions utilities serve.
We will also touch on how data management and governance are being embedded into telecom workflows - improving asset visibility, data quality, and operational reporting across network environments.
Attendees will leave with a practical view of how to scale telecom programs by pairing network investment with a workforce model that supports both communications infrastructure and the broader digital ecosystem - while delivering meaningful local economic impact.
