Evergy realizes the benefits of private LTE and continues to rapidly deploy devices supported by their private LTE network. Optimizing distributed intelligence applications throughout the grid is a primary focus to mitigate risks, improve operational metrics, and increase customer satisfaction. Our panelists from Hubbell, Novatech, SEL, Ubicquia, and Eaton will discuss insights and lessons learned on how Evergy is supporting FLISR and smart grid applications including communications to lateral reclosers, street light controllers for grid edge asset health, and security and device management. Evergy will discuss how bringing communication to their lateral recloser protection devices has improved reliability and engineering troubleshooting, resulting in high operational performance. In addition, by collecting voltage data (sag and swell) via connected streetlights, Evergy has developed a new and cost-effective method for fault location, removing the need for costly field sensors. These technology leaders share implementation insights and lessons learned including how to improve integrated SCADA communications, FLISR, and other applications that deliver better intelligence throughout the Evergy network.
